Climb aboard our shuttle and enjoy the approximately one-hour journey to Matera. Once you arrive at your destination, you can set off to discover the city of the amazing and unique Sassi, the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the world. These caves were inhabited from the Neolithic period until 1952. Because of their unique and tangible history, these places are enveloped in a very special, mystical atmosphere. We recommend a visit to the “Casa Grotta”, a house-museum set in a Sasso, which will give you an idea of the lifestyle of the local inhabitants in these special houses in years gone by, and also a rock church, another symbol of local culture. Many directors have chosen to set their films in Matera because of its deeply evocative atmosphere; among them we can mention the controversial film ‘The Passion of the Christ’ by Mel Gibson.
